Lookin' Good

Can’t sleep so I’m going through FW12 RTW runway photos. Came across this and I started laughing hysterically - I can’t tell if it’s the posture, Incredible Hulk face, Herman Munster paws, or combination of all the above, but it makes for a very hilarious image. And it totally made my (sleepless) night.

SO GORGEOUS I COULD CRY
When I’m a trillionaire I’m going to keep a closet full of beautiful dresses like this one and wear them around the house just because.

Feeling the blues
This spring, it’s all about making ladylike sensibilities tough enough for the modern woman. I’m all about pleated skirts and nipped-in waistlines with dramatic makeup and leather accents - it screams badass like nothing else! That’s why I’m crazy about OPI’s Yoga-ta Get This Blue: it’s so insanely perfect. It says don’t-mess-with-me like nothing else. Dolce & Gabbana featured dark nails on their SS12 runways and they’re the perfect way to segue from winter to warmer days. Inter-seasonal style has never been so easy! I’ve been rocking this color and OPI’s Here Today, Aragon Tomorrow (a dark green hue) while slowly introducing more pastels into my everyday wardrobe. What I love about this shade is that it’s got a mild glimmer but isn’t too metallic (I’m not big on metallics), so you can only see the shimmer way up close. I love it. I love, love, LOVE it! (My first professional manicure, when I was around seven or eight years old, was also dark blue -so I feel a sort of special personal connection as well.) I highly recommend this polish. Also (slightly less related), for the more adventurous among you, Nicki Minaj’s collaboration with OPI is also ahhh-mayzing (Did It On ‘Em is sooo one of my top ten favorite shades right now). And for those who wanna skip straight to pastels despite the weather, OPI’s Mod About You is a sensational pink bold enough to make a statement that isn’t quite delicate spring but not entirely frigid-temps either.

“Once” - Diana Vickers

This song came on the Pandora station I’ve been listening to for the past bit of time and I was like, “Oh my goodness, I love this!” Sadly, it’s not available in the US…actually, none of Diana Vickers’ stuff is. Sucks MAJORLY. But I managed to find this video and it’s the most fabulous thing to happen to my weekend, and that’s saying a lot!

Totally Obsessed

I’ve gone through thousands - literally thousands - of runway photos in the past few weeks. Spring/Summer is always so exciting; everything seems so fresh. And while there was a lot of really great stuff out there this year, the Ralph Lauren collection really took my breath away! I remember calling my mom in to take a look so we could obsess over how simply stunning RL’s designs were for the season. In a word, they are gorgeous. It’s the decadence and romance of the Gatsby era for a modern world, and I fell in love immediately! Can’t wait to find ways to incorporate opulent feathers, delicate embellishments, and shimmering fabrics into my Spring attire.

(Unique by Topshop has produced a gown that is certainly more affordable than RL’s, but much as I would love to splurge on it I sadly can’t think of a situation when I could wear it…)

SUPER EXCITED

…for MARY KATRANTZOU x TOPSHOP! Styles for SS12 will be available starting February 17th. Can’t wait to see the full collection! Mary Katrantzou has always been one of my absolute favorites; lush and extravagant patterns and fabrics make her designs a real treat for the eyes. Even if my broke-college-student’s financial resources are fairly limited, hopefully there will be a couple of pieces I can snag and/or some cool ideas I can emulate. I’ll bet that the NYC store will be a nightmare on the release date - remember the madness surrounding Versace x H&M? Though I’m still sad that I can’t be there, it would be quite the experience!
